A Vermont Producer We Know Personally

During a family visit to Vermont, we spent time with Josh at Rugged Ridge Forest, toured his property and syrup-making facility, and shared a meal together. Seeing the place and meeting the person behind the syrup made it all the more meaningful to bring it home to our customers.

We love sharing food with a connection like this: a small producer, thoughtful work, and something delicious that we enjoy at our own table.

The Wood-Fired Difference

Many modern syrup operations rely on oil, gas, or propane for heat. Josh keeps the wood-fired tradition alive: preparing firewood and tending the fire throughout the boil.

Rugged Ridge credits this process with caramelized depth and a delicate hint of wood smoke. The flavor is richly maple, with subtle smokiness that adds character without overwhelming your food.

Rooted in the Forest

Wood from Rugged Ridge’s own managed forest fuels the evaporator. Selected trees provide firewood while the sugarbush is cared for for the years ahead.

Rugged Ridge describes its wood-fuel approach as sustainable and carbon neutral—a commitment to renewable local fuel and less reliance on fossil fuels for evaporation.

From Vermont’s Woods to Your Kitchen

Pour over pancakes, waffles, or French toast. Stir a little into oatmeal or coffee, drizzle over plain yogurt or ice cream, or whisk into a homemade dressing.

For something savory, try a maple glaze for pork or salmon, or a light drizzle over roasted vegetables. Every flavor deserves a place at the table—including our bold, delicious Very Dark.
