A Pennsylvania Dutch favorite! Apple butter (along with both pear and peach butter) are spreadable preserves made by slow-cooking apples (or pears/peaches) for a long time over low heat, caramelizing them and concentrating their flavor.
We enjoy apple butter on toast with butter, as a condiment with breakfast sausage or bratwurst, on pancakes, as a topping for cottage cheese, as a sandwich with peanut butter and apple butter, as a dip for fruits and veggies, stirred into oatmeal, and more!
